Cocreating service innovations in European public libraries
Abstract
This study uses survey data for 543 European libraries to investigate the effect of co-creation and other factors on the usefulness of knowledge for innovation obtained from four groups: library users, non-management staff, non-profits and businesses. The study finds that 24.3% of libraries develop a 'high priority' innovation through co-creation with library users. Co-creation has a substantial positive effect on the usefulness of knowledge obtained from all four groups. The knowledge of non-managerial library staff on user needs can partly substitute for user engagement. The results support the importance of drawing on multiple knowledge sources within a library innovation ecosystem.

本研究利用543家欧洲图书馆的调查数据，考察共同创造及其他因素对从四类主体——图书馆用户、非管理人员员工、非营利组织和企业——所获取的创新知识有用性的影响。研究发现，24.3%的图书馆通过与图书馆用户共同创造来开发“高优先级”创新。共同创造对从上述四类主体获取知识的有用性均具有显著正向影响。非管理岗位图书馆员工关于用户需求的知识可以部分替代用户参与。研究结果支持了在图书馆创新生态系统中利用多元知识来源的重要性。
